These two old rivals met for their second successive encounter after Fruitcake edged out Sardine in a 2-1 Onion Bag Cup game.
Riding high at the top of the SSPA Dirty Dunc took his men to Gash Lane with a league, OBC and JMT treble in his sights. However, Erling Haaland's 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th goals of the season helped CNUT FC thrash the league leaders 26-12. The Duncity manager grumbled about a few assists he should have had but that would have made little difference.
Two Inces are bouncing at the moment and Big Euge was on a hiding to nothing despite it being billed as second v third.
After leading this tie throughout, the Shankers were undone by an Eric Dier clean sheet and that just about sums up this dreary match.
This turned out to be the tie of the round with Duncity racing into a big lead before the Taxbores rallied with 10 points in the last game of the week. Two goals each for Martial and Almiron and a Salah assist seemed to have done the job for DD. However, LG's Foxy boys, Maddison and Vardy, led a spirited fightback with the Square Garden Boy scoring 80% of the ten points accumulated by the pair. Ultimately, the Taxbores fell short and Daka scored for Duncity to put an end to the nonsense.
It may look like one of the dullest encounters in JMT history but dig deep and you'll realise that there was more to it. Minus five points for both teams, because of the Manchester debacle, was a setback for both managers. Dog also had Ake, but he took a couple of tablets and he was OK. Veltman's minus two added to the pain for Bunny. Antony scored for UnderDog, so did Schar, and Welbeck picked up an assist. Later, Scamacca and Auberginemeyang notched for Bunnies. However, with the Dog tied to the lampost outside the pub for the final game of the week, Bunny's Tricky Trees (Lingard and Dennis) failed to perform and the Canines progressed into the Quarter Finals.
Another team suffering lots of negative points were Smegma United. Although they don't have any hapless Old Trafford-based defenders, the Smeggers still had to overcome seven minus points almost equally distributed amongst Alisson, Cancelo, Dunk and Targett. While Mee secured a clean sheet and Kane and Xhaka scored and Bertie Silva grabbed an assist it was not enough to catch up the nine-point total posted by Phil Foden, let alone the rest of the Twinces Troupe.
