These are halcyon days for Sardine as he watched his side dismantle Duncity United to reel in the season's first silverware. Back in May the Fishmen saw off the same team in the Jeff Stelling Shield final to earn Sardine his first title since winning the knockout competition in 2009. He has never been close to winning the Tosspot League before and in 2012 ended up with the wooden spoon with Crane Sundancers. So, one trophy in 15 years but two in the last six months.
The weekend was set up for the tense climax (ooer missus) with either Sardine, Scott E Dog and Laughing Glavesy still in the hunt. Sardine had to out-score Scott by at least three points while Glavesy could still win by beating Scott and hoping Dirty Dunc could pull his finger out against Sardine.
A training ground disagreement led to Scott E Dog dropping the Royal Mountain Chip, Nacho Monreal, for the North London derby which in turn led to a missed clean sheet. Cech secured his Wandering Dog clean sheet to give them the lead against the Bores who had Trippier on minus one. Meanwhile Sardine City's Bellerin tipped the scales fishways against Duncity. The latter was to collect all of his nine points of the weekend in the 3.00pm kick offs with Mignolet and Kompany collecting clean sheets and De Bruyne scoring. But Mo Salah notched a brace, Lukaku scored and Tarkowski kept a clean sheet to keep City in control. Meanwhile Pogba was getting five points for the Taxbores and was matched by Niassa doing the same for Dog.
Scott's team kept the one-point lead until the end but couldn't push on - while Sardine city finished with aplomb and a goal for Icky Hairdo to finish level on points with Wandering Dog but with a much better points difference. Scott will be wondering what he has to do to win this competition after ending up unbeaten and being runner up last season to Cookie.
